On Election Day, November 4th,1968, I was waiting to cross the street in San Francisco with
my brand new Minolta SRT 101 35mm camera hanging from my neck. Half way up the
block I noticed a Porsche coming towards me. As the car stopped, I focused on the
psychedelic paint job. The young woman behind the wheel looked over, saw me, smiled,
and waived. I thought, "Holy shit! That's Janis Joplin!" In that instant I pressed the
shutter button. In the next instant the light turned green. Janis was gone.
